The Life of Plants
If your child is wild about nature and you constantly find them wanting to explore the great outdoors, then LabRats’ garden biology courses are perfect for you! Students will discover how plants survive, grow and interact with their environment in this 4-week course series.
Interested in enrolling after September 11th? Contact us at (760) 450-4717 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Learn how the plants of the past can teach us a lot about the plants of today if they’re preserved using professional techniques. Students will spend the day appreciating the beauty in nature and learning how to preserve their favorite plants for a lifetime just like they’re preserved in museums.
“A Seed’s Life”
Students will explore the ways seeds move from one place to another, whether carried by wind, water, animals or self-propelled. Then they will devise their own dispersal method for LabRats “seeds” in a fantastic outdoor simulation students love.
“The Color of Plants”
Students will explore the science behind plant colors by performing chromatography, a professional technique used by scientists worldwide. This course will show how pigments make plants look the way they do.
This course will separate the dirt from the soil and give students a background and introduction to plant nutrients. Students will learn why farmers add unique components that can make different plants thrive, then compare and test the soil of all the different fruits and vegetables in our garden to see if they’re missing any nutrients.
